Nestled in the Selkirk Mountains along Kootenay Lake's West Arm, Nelson, BC, stands as a hidden gem—a vibrant mountain town celebrated for its heritage, recreation, culture, and creativity. For 18 transformative months, Nelson was both my home and a chapter in my personal and professional journey.
In September 2022, drawn to Nelson for a new career opportunity, I enjoyed unforgettable powder skiing/riding, mind-blowing hikes, and nature's wonders outside my doorstep. Living in Nelson taught me invaluable lessons about self-love, career navigation, and the importance of living in honesty. Nelson's grounded community urged introspection and personal growth, emphasizing the importance of understanding oneself.
Professionally, Nelson brought challenges in quieting my mind, resolved by therapeutic hikes that often birthed marketing strategies. Gimli Ridge inspired 'It all started with a dream,' a campaign exploring words' profound meanings. Travelling to wild places like Monica Meadows sparked taglines such as 'Uncharted Territory,' 'Born to Roam,' and 'Nature's Playground.'
In hindsight, I wish I'd enjoyed the process and was more present—a valuable life lesson extending beyond the professional realm. Nelson's untamed beauty not only influenced my career growth but also served as inspiration for how nature makes you feel, becoming part of a narrative that holds true for the masses wishing to experience it themselves.
