Mountain Equipment COOP
ROLE: EVENT MARKETER
At Mountain Equipment Co-op, I had an enriching and dynamic experience, honing my skills in event production and creative ideation. I organized MEC Snowfest, Vancouver’s largest ski and snowboard event, and spearheaded MEC’s inaugural film festival. My responsibilities encompassed building relationships, securing sponsorships and partnerships, and conducting community outreach.
I also provided product knowledge, advice, and support to MEC members, coordinated MEC Bikefest—transforming it into Vancouver’s largest road cycling event—and served as the Special Orders Coordinator for the Marine and Snowsports department. Additionally, I championed the Big Wild Challenge for the Lower Mainland and contributed as a committee member for the Environmental Impact Committee (EIC). These roles not only deepened my expertise but also strengthened my connection to the outdoor community and MEC’s mission.
SNowfest
As a passionate snow-sports enthusiast, I eagerly embraced the opportunity to organize SnowFest. In this role, I managed sponsorships and outreach, successfully expanding the festival to introduce the first-ever Film Festival. Today, if you’re an MEC member, you’ve likely heard of this marquee film screening event at the Vancouver location. It’s incredible to look back and see how it all started with a simple idea to share the stoke for winter, brought to life through a meaningful partnership with Protect Our Winters.
Century ride
During my time at MEC, we ventured into high-performance cycling and introduced the Century Ride—a group and competitive cycling event featuring 50- and 100-km routes. My role involved driving registration through community outreach, public relations, and content creation. These events were a significant undertaking but incredibly successful.
I’ll always cherish the satisfaction of setting up a 100-km course and actively participating in the event. This experience not only deepened my professional expertise but also fueled my enduring passion for road cycling, which continues to inspire me to this day!
Big wild challenge
As MEC’s Big Wild Champion in collaboration with CPAWS, I focused on increasing internal engagement at MEC to boost participation in a trail-running event in North Vancouver, designed to raise funds for wilderness conservation initiatives. The Big Wild Challenges encouraged participants to pledge outdoor adventures in the Canadian wild while seeking financial contributions from friends and family to support conservation efforts.
This initiative was one of many incredible connections and endeavors facilitated by MEC, and it even inspired me to contribute through fundraising during one of my own adventures in Tofino. It was a truly rewarding experience that combined my love for the outdoors with a meaningful cause.
