Mountain Equipment COOP
ROLE: EVENT MARKETER
At Mountain Equipment Coop, I had an enriching experience, gaining expertise in event production and ideation. I organized MEC Snowfest, Vancouver's largest ski and snowboard event, and spearheaded MEC's inaugural film festival. My responsibilities included relationship building, securing sponsorships and partnerships, and community outreach. I provided product information, advice, and support to MEC members, coordinated MEC Bikefest to become the largest road cycling event in Vancouver, and served as the Special Orders Coordinator for the Marine and Snowsports department. Additionally, I championed the Big Wild Challenge for the Lower Mainland and was a committee member for the EIC.
SNowfest
As a passionate snow-sports enthusiast, I eagerly seized the opportunity to organize SnowFest. In this role, I oversaw sponsorship and outreach, successfully expanding the festival to include the first-ever Film Festival. Today, if you're a member of MEC, you're likely familiar with this marquee film screening event held at the Vancouver location. It's incredible to reflect on how it all began with a simple idea to share the stoke for winter, brought to life through a partnership with Protect Our Winters.
Century ride
During my time at MEC, we ventured into the realm of high-performance cycling, and to connect with the core market, we introduced the Century Ride—a group and competitive cycling event offering 50 and 100 km routes. My responsibility was to drive registration through community outreach, public relations, and content creation. These events proved to be a massive undertaking but were incredibly successful. I'll always remember the satisfaction of setting a 100 km course and actively participating in the event. This experience fueled my enduring passion for road cycling, which persists to this day!
Big wild challenge
As MEC's Big Wild Champion in collaboration with CPAWS, I focused on enhancing internal engagement at MEC to boost participation in a trail running event in North Vancouver, aimed at raising funds for wilderness conservation initiatives. The Big Wild Challenges encourage participants to pledge trips into the Canadian wild for conservation, seeking financial contributions from friends and family. This initiative was one of the numerous remarkable connections and endeavors facilitated by MEC, and it even led to fundraising during one of my adventures in Tofino.
